Since 1991, Miller Leaman has been manufacturing quality filtration products for customers. Miller Leaman manufactures three unique filtration products, a patented line of stainless steel liquid filters/strainers commonly known as the Thompson Filter/Strainer, the Helix Screen/Disc Series and the evolution of automatic disc filtration, the Turbo-Disc filter, along with many custom filtration systems to meet the needs of customers.
Thompson Strainer
The Thompson Strainer is a highly efficient, patented stainless steel strainer which features a large conical screen. The large conical screen has considerably more screen surface area versus traditional y-strainers or basket strainers. Due to the strainer’s distinctive design water enters the bottom of the strainer housing and flows upward. Heavier debris and particulate is accelerated downward, away from the conical screen, into the large debris reservoir at the base of the strainer. The particulate is then flushed from the reservoir via the debris flush port. Since all models contain a large amount of screen surface area, they operate with less than a 1-PSI pressure loss at maximum flow when clean. The strainers are available with a wide variety of screen mesh options, ranging from large perforated hole-openings down to approximately 50-micron. Depending on the specific demands of the project, The strainers can be customized to fit the specific requirements and can be outfitted with optional Instrumentation Packages.
Key Features
• Flush Particles via Bottom Flush Port
• Greater Screen Surface Area
• Less than 1 PSI Pressure Loss
• Simple Design
• Space Saving Profile
• High Quality Stainless Steel
Applications
• Cooling Tower
• Chilled Water
• Well / Surface Water
• Process Water
• Wastewater / Reclaim Water
• Municipal Water
• Mining Applications
• Chemical Processing
• Food / Beverage Applications (Sanitary Design)
Thompson Strainer Instrumentation
The Pressure Differential Alarm Package continuously monitors the inlet and outlet system pressure. When the pressure differential exceeds the preset limit, a switch-gauge triggers a siren and visual flashing alarm. These alarms are intended to alert maintenance personnel that the strainer screen needs to be removed from the strainer housing for manual cleaning.
The Automatic Timer Flush Package insures that particulate is flushed from the debris reservoir. To alleviate safety concerns and provide easier access, the watertight control box houses the power supply and timer controls for the valve package, attached to the valve. Depending on the application, the end-user simply dials in the flush frequency and flush duration of the valve. Based on the limitations that are programmed, the ball valve quickly opens and closes, minimizing the volume of water that is flushed from the strainer. The valve conveniently comes with a manual flush control switch that can be used to manually flush the strainer or drain the strainer before removing the screen.
